Yes. The only additional cost is the £526 Probate Registry fee for estates over £5,000, paid directly to HMCTS. That fee applies whichever route you take. No hourly rates, no percentages, no extras.
No. There is no legal requirement to use a solicitor to apply for probate in England and Wales, and thousands of people apply themselves every year. A solicitor does the same paperwork you would, and charges you for it.
If you can get online, you can use the platform. There is nothing to install and the questions are in plain English. After revisiting the IHT400 form several times and googling some of the terms used, stumbled upon You can do Probate. I was a little sceptical about signing up as it was£499 versus a minimum of £2k for a solicitor. From the beginning I have had helpful advice. Tom has shown oodles of patience. My hearing is not of the best, neither is my eyesight, but I plodded on with his gentle pushing. i had talked to a solicitor to do the probate, he wanted 1 to 5 % of the value of the house approx £4,000 to £20,000 pounds then i found youcandoprobate.co.uk online, for £325 so instead of telling the high cost solicitor all the details he needed to know, i just wrote them same details on the online forms, and any questions i had were only a phone call away and each question was answered. as you go through the online forms every thing is worked out for you and you print the forms off at the end and send them off. this as an excellent service and have no hesitation in recommending them, they are brilliant
